This demanding full-day route starts from Platåfjellet and follows a long mountain traverse across varied Arctic terrain, including ridgelines, plateaus, and valley crossings before descending toward Sukkertoppen. The route also links sections around Sarkofagen, Næssfjellet, Sverdruphamaren, and Grubefjellet, creating a substantial and physically challenging mountain journey in the area above Longyearbyen.

Depending on snow and weather conditions, the total distance is approximately 20–25 km, with an estimated duration of 8–10 hours. The route involves continuous movement over uneven ground, elevation changes, and exposed sections, making this experience suitable only for guests with solid mountain experience and good physical fitness. This is a serious Arctic challenge designed for those who want a long, varied, and highly rewarding day in the mountains.


Tour Program

        Starting from longyearbyen center.

        Steady guided ascent through tundra and rocky terrain.

        Several Summit and view point, time for photography, and refreshments.

        Descent and return transfer to town.

Included

        Experienced Arctic guide with local knowledge and safety equipment.

        Hot drinks,  and snacks and lunch during the day.

        Walking poles, crampons as conditions require.

        Search and rescue insurance.

Important Information

        Duration: 8–10 hours total, including breaks and summits time.

        Difficulty: hard – steady climbs, rocky terrain, very good fitness required.

        Minimum participants: 2 people.

        Group size: Maximum 8 people.

What to Bring

        Sturdy hiking boots with good ankle support.

        Windproof, waterproof jacket and warm layers.

        Hat, gloves, and buff or scarf.

        Water bottle and small daypack.

        Camera or smartphone for capturing the views.

        Sunglasses and sunscreen for bright Arctic conditions.


Safety and conditions

The route may be adjusted for weather, ice, or wind. Your safety always comes first, and we reserve the right to refuse participation if you are not properly dressed.
Travel insurance is strongly recommended.
