Authentic East Coast Experience - Into the Arctic Wilderness

Get ready for a true Arctic adventure on our East Coast Snowmobile Safari, one of Svalbard's most remote and spectacular experiences. We travel from Longyearbyen to one of the wildest parts of Spitsbergen, where glaciers, sea ice and polar bear country meet in one unforgettable day.


This 10-hour snowmobile safari takes you across the frozen interior of Spitsbergen to the east coast, where vast valleys, ice fields and glacier fronts meet the frozen sea. You drive through Adventdalen and Sassendalen, then cross glaciers and sea ice to the remote Mohnbukta, where we stop for an Arctic expedition lunch.

The landscape is dramatic and largely untouched, with real opportunities to see wildlife.


Itinerary

  • Depart early morning from Longyearbyen (around 08:30).
  • Drive through Adventdalen and Sassendalen, stopping to enjoy the vastness of the Arctic wilderness.
  • Continue over glaciers towards the frozen sea ice.
  • Arrive at Mohnbukta on the east coast.
  • Enjoy expedition lunch on the sea ice in front of towering ice walls.
  • Look for wildlife and photo stops along the route.
  • Return to Longyearbyen around 18:00.

  • Duration: Approx. 10 hours (8:30 AM–6:00 PM).
  • Distance: Approximately 140–180 km by snowmobile.
  • Active driving time: Approx. 6–7 hours.
  • Difficulty: Challenging, but manageable for most skill levels
  • Season: February–May (depending on weather and ice).
  •  Valid driving license required, Vienna/Geneva Convention
  • Minimum age: 15 years (accompanied by an adult).

What to bring

Warm underwear (wool or synthetic), fleece or wool pants and sweater, thin gloves to wear under your mittens, water bottle, camera and a small backpack. Do not wear large jackets under your snowmobile suit, layering is important.


Safety and Conditions

This tour is highly dependent on weather, ice and visibility. Your guide may adjust or shorten the route at any time for safety reasons; no refunds will be given for route changes. Participants must be in good physical condition and comfortable with challenging Arctic conditions. We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance, including Arctic rescue coverage.


Language Requirements

As your safety is our top priority, clear communication is essential. To join one of our excursions, you are required to be able to speak and understand either English. This ensures that you can follow your guide's instructions and fully enjoy the experience.
