Trollsteinen is one of Longyearbyen’s most rewarding day hikes: a remote 850‑meter summit with big mountain feeling and wide‑open Arctic views. This full‑day expedition starts in a rugged moraine valley before we gradually gain height toward the Larsbreen glacier, where the landscape suddenly opens and the town disappears behind you. With crampons or sturdy boots (depending on season), we cross the glacier and follow a narrowing ridge toward the distinctive “troll stone” that gives the mountain its name.
Expect a demanding but non‑technical hike with steady ascent, some steeper sections, and 700–800 meters of elevation gain over roughly 9–11 km. Along the way, your guide shares stories about local geology, glaciers, climate change, and life in Svalbard, while you experience true silence far from roads and settlements. This tour is designed for fit hikers who want more than a viewpoint—a full day out in serious Arctic terrain with professional safety equipment, small groups, and time to really feel the scale of the High Arctic.
